Current Events

The GDI policy debate camps will be held from June 14-July 4, 2015 (Two and Three Week options) on the campus of the University of Georgia. While attending the institute, students will receive intensive topic instruction, lectures and exercises devoted to skill development, research training, and close attention from some of the nation’s best teaching faculty.

There are many reasons to choose to attend the Georgia Debate Institute, including:

-- Top notch faculty, eager to help you achieve your goals. The GDI is staffed by successful coaches and debaters with a track record of enthusiasm for teaching debate. Guaranteed faculty-to-student ratio of no greater than 8 to 1.

-- Want to get some life experience? Spend a summer in Athens, GA on the campus of the University of Georgia, one of the country’s premier public institutions. While at the GDI, you’ll get a taste of real college life, living in UGA dorms, eating at Georgia’s award-winning cafeterias, and receiving instruction in our beautiful classrooms.

-- Skills work from day one. Every participant at the GDI will receive our pre-institute evidence set. This will include core files about the topic, enabling every student to begin debating on the first day that labs meet. With the success of the NDCA Open Evidence project, we believe that the focus of debate camps should no longer be on churning out mass amounts of evidence. Instead, research-related instruction should be tailored with a skills-based approach to improve the communicative and logical aspects of the activity.

-- Tailored instruction. The GDI hopes to serve both younger, inexperienced students and older debaters who may be entering their junior and senior years. To that end, we plan to have multiple labs that are roughly divided based on skill and experience level. This will allow our faculty to plan curricula that maximize the benefit for each student.

-- Perfect timing. Running from June 14 to July 4, the GDI is one of the earliest debate institutes in the country. This allows you to get a jump-start on learning and debating about the topic before your peers. For more experienced debaters who may be interested in multi-camping: why not do both? Come to the GDI, get advanced instruction and tailored teaching on important issues like paperless debate, then go to another longer camp knowing that you’ll have a leg-up on your competition there.

NFL PARTICIPANTS: If you're attending NFLs this summer but would still like to attend the GDI, we can work around your NFL schedule. Email us about our prorated prices!

-- Low cost. The cost for two weeks of overnight camp (June 21-July 4) is $1500 and the cost of the 3 week overnight camp (June 14-July 4) is $2000. Apply and make your deposit by May 1st and save $100, making either camp one of the lowest costs nationally for a debate institute.
